Aaaaaamazing!!!! Came on opening day Wow. I have been watching the whole project from beginning till now since I work a block away. They tore down the old Post Office and built this new beautiful museum. A lot of effort and thought has gone into the design on inside of this building and its nice to see some of the old art elements of of the Post Office incorporated into the new museum. Downtown Edmonton is being revitalized and this is a key piece. I wish my sons were younger because the childrens area is great and very interactive. A large section is devoted to the native population and their history and it is well done and tasteful. The natural history area is fantastic and incorporates the still life exhibits of the old museum. I will be coming back to the new museum many times.
Finally, the city has a true museum. The old RAM was charming but was too small; this is a long-overdue larger-scaled facility. The year pass is worth it esp. if you have kids. Still a bit crowded due to the recent opening but worth a visit. The cafeteria/cafe has some decent fare and worth a check if you want a quick bite/refreshments.
I went to the museum and loved it. I have been to museums all over the world and am glad to have such a beautiful, accessible space right down town.The human history exhibit is an awesome telling of human's history in Alberta. Great to see focus on here, rather than the world, including some recent history.The natural history exhibit was beautiful and the dioramas were amazing.I definitely will be returning when it is slower to take more time to enjoy and read everything!
It was a disappointment. It has so much more space than the old one, but poorly utilized. Except for the fossil display, it seemed to display similar exhibits to the old one, only displayed differently. This is a change of location, but not a great improvement. Only street parking is available. Not sure why the effort and expense to do all of this.It's not much better than what we had. I suppose it's all part of downtown revitalization. It, at least, does that.
Millions and millions of our taxpayers money spent and you can't even build a simple parking lot for families! Had to walk about 5 blocks past several panhandler's and one very aggressive homeless person scaring our kids we will never be back! Shame on whomever decided to pass on the parking lot it's definitely an issues for large families. If you plan on trying to find a parking spot far away and walking, you might want to invest in some pepper spray first. Or become friends with a politician or media personality that get to park right out front and seem to pretend that this is not an issue.
