We have been coming to the Zoo for many years and have always enjoyed it. It has become dated in some areas but in the last couple of years with new funding it is now being updated. I do think that it would be so much nicer if there were a time when there is no zoos. I contemplate that if I was in a cage how would I feel. Not to nice I think. But in the meantime it is nice to see a better thinking of treating the animals better and providing more space and a more natural experience. I look forward to a time I believe there will be no zoos. The Valley Zoo will always have a soft spot in my mind and I feel there are good days ahead for it.
The Edmonton Valley Zoo is definitely a good place to spend the day with friends or family. The animals were great and the enclosures were nicely maintained and clean. Moreover, I love how cheap the admission fees were, especially the annual pass! There were a couple of vendors who sold ice-cream, drinks, etc.. which was nice also. It also takes awhile to adventure around the zoo itself, and it was nice to see the animals out and about. It was also delightful to read the little informational cards which came with each exhibit.Overall, I would highly recommend going here especially when you have not already! They also do certain themed events around the year. You can find out more on their website.
Beautiful zoo! The animals all looked very happy, energetic, and well cared for. We were able to get close to Steve & Beau the otters while keepers did an up-close-and-personal demonstration and we were able to see Lucy the elephant who regularly gets to go on walks all around the zoo. They obviously really care about their zoo and we were able to explore the West Edmonton mall and the zoo all in one day because they're wonderfully close together. Highly recommend!
I went to the Calgary Zoo early in September and was very impressed. I hadn't been to the Valley Zoo since a child so I was glad to take advantage of free admission day. There is no comparison between the two. The Edmonton Valley Zoo seemed very disorganized as to where the exhibits are. The habitats did not have any sort of order to them. The pathways are cracked and uneven, and there seemed to be construction everywhere. I found the Calgary Zoo was much easier to get around/navigate and it was much cleaner. I did enjoy seeing Lucy the elephant, the Tigres, and the zebras. I am not sure if it was the unseasonably cold weather, but a lot of animals were not in there habitats (not the zoo's fault of course).
We really enjoyed this medium sized zoo. Loved the fact that there were lots of places in the shade to sit and rest. We were entertained by the red pandas especially the one that tried to make it's escape up the stairs out the door following the handler. Find the food expensive but hopefully it supports the zoo.
