As we like to try a new restaurant once a month, my girlfriend and I decided to give The Local Omnivore a go. We arrived at 5:50 pm on a Thursday night. The restaurant was basically empty, save for a two tables with patrons. As it was our first visit, we wanted to take in the atmosphere a bit. The female server invited us to choose a seat so we selected a table in the corner which allowed us a view of the surroundings. Within a minute of taking our seats, the server approached to ask us to move to a "two person" table, explaining that the area we were in was reserved for groups of 5 people. We found this a bit strange as this wasn't a booth, and it consisted of two, two person tables, pushed together, which could have easily been moved over a few feet in order to create a four person seating. ? Having been in thousands of restaurants over the years, this is the first time I'd experienced something like this. Perhaps, if the server had been a little apologetic, we wouldn't have worried about it. Such wasn't the case, however. We got the feeling that she enjoyed asking us to move. What followed was a reasonably nice meal with reasonable service. As we were finishing our meal we did order a glass of wine, which took 15 minutes to arrive. ? In fairness, by this time, the restaurant was busier and the servers seemed to be in short supply. I might add that, the "booth" we had asked to vacate was still not in use. As I paid the bill, my girlfriend asked our server if it was her rule we had broken. She nicely explained that it was the co-owners, Mark Bellows and Ryan Brodziak, who made the rule and she was forced to enforce it. Fair enough. I decided to leave it at that and call back the next day, today, to chat with the guys in charge. I spoke with Mark. I told him that we both enjoyed our meals, that the service was fair, but that we felt uncomfortable about his rules around seating. He was neither apologetic, nor understanding and basically dug his heals in stating that it was his decision and, if I didn't agree....well....too bad. Again, fair enough. I don't tell people how to run their businesses but, if I see something that can easily help make my experience better, I'll offer some suggestions. Some businesses appreciate the help, this one didn't. I might add that we still tipped the server very well. None of this was her fault. In summing up, if you're looking for some place new to try, and the experience is as important as the food, I'd look elsewhere.
Great lunch there today! We were from out of town and Google searched nearby restaurants and decided to give it a try. Service was excellent as was the food with an awesome casual vibe. The chef was fantastic and personally asked how we enjoyed our meals and even sent us home with samples of his special pirate spice! We will definitely be back!!
I was at the bank and searched lunch in Google maps which brought me here. I was so very happy with the place! Terrific vibe, stellar service and comfort food that put me in a coma later in the afternoon. It warmed my system right to my toes. All was right with the world after the bean ball sub. Yup. I went vegetarian and was so satisfied with my choice. They make local ingredients the star and they have a keen eye for the craft beer scene too. I will be back!
Solid Brunch joint that I went to after hitting the gym. The restaurant is a seat yourself style place that is very open and super casual. The folks that work there were super casual and nice.Food wise I had ordered one of the brunch plates where I was able to sample all of their deli meats. I must say the meal was very stuffing and was almost 60% meat on the plate, I felt that the bacon was really good but the sausage was my least favourite of the meats as it tasted like the sausage you buy from a Costco.Overall, would definitely try this place if you are craving some sort of meats and in the local area.
We had our wedding dinner here Sept26 and it was amazing. The food was amazing, even the old people loved it and that says a lot! Atmosphere was perfect. Thanks boys. And girls.
